The 12th and final video in Dr. Richard Brown’s philosophy of mind course. In this video we discuss David Chalmers’ paper ‘The Singularity: A Philosophical Analysis’. This includes his argument for A.I., non-classical computation, his argument for the Singularity and his Fading and Dancing qualia arguments aimed at showing that we can upload our consciousness to a virtual environment. This is contrasted with biological views of consciousness and both are contrasted with phsyicalism and dualism. After this we turn to a discussion of Bostrom’s Simulation Argument for the conclusion that either we go extinct before we can simulate consciousness, or we lose interest in simulating consciousness, or we are almost certainly in a simulation right now.
