Google Launches Gmailify for Non-Gmail Accounts

Google has rolled out a new feature called Gmalify that offers the best of Gmail to Outlook and Yahoo users. The update is specifically launched for certain email addresses that do not end in @gmail.com, but seeks the search giant’s email features like inbox organization and spam protection. The feature however, currently works only on the web and through the company’s Android email service app. It is currently restricted to Outlook, Yahoo and Hotmail accounts, but the Internet giant reportedly plans to add more email service providers in the future.
The Verge explained that in order to be able to use the feature, users will have to log into their non-Gmail accounts at mail.google.com or through the search giant’s email service app, access the settings panel, and click on Link Accounts. There is also the option for users to unlink accounts at any time while still having access to their mails without the Gmailify feature.

The Internet giant said that with the new feature, users will get faster search capabilities. Mails will also be sorted into promotions, social and updates categories while travel information gathered from emails will show up in Google Now. Tech Times notes that the feature also comes after the tech firm recently launched new security features for its Gmail users on the web. These include sending warnings if users are about to send messages to or receive messages from a recipient with an unsecured connection.
For the past year, Mountain View’s Gmail app for Android has allowed people to access third-party email accounts such as those from Outlook or Yahoo. Google has now launched Gmailify that will bring additional Gmail features to people who do not want to face the hassle of creating new email addresses. The search giant’s email service now fully supports Outlook and Yahoo email addresses.
Tech Crunch notes that the initiative makes sense for users who are interested in Google’s email service for its advanced features, but are stuck with a different email account and do not want to deal with multiple email accounts. Apart from the advanced features, users will also receive better notifications on mobile and be able to the use the Internet giant’s advanced search operators.
Micheal Kaser, a software engineer at the Mountain View, California-based tech company said that they are really excited to offer the best of their email service to more people, and they are planning to add other providers to Gmailify down the line. He confirmed that if users ever change their minds, they can unlink the accounts at any time, and continue to access their mails without the latest feature.
Google on Wednesday launched a new tool Gmailify, which allows users to use their Yahoo and Outlook inside Gmail without changing their @outlook.com or @yahoo.com addresses. That means users will not only be able to check their email accounts from the supported providers within the Gmail app, but they can also manage those accounts as if they were hosted on Mountain View’s own servers.
