Earlier this year, BitTorrent announced a new BitTorrent Now app that allows users to stream a varietyof content including videos and music. At the time, the app was Android-only, but now the app hasofficially come to iOS and Apple TV.

BitTorrent says that a variety of publishers have signed on to sharecontent on the BitTorrent Now platform, including The Onion, SuperDeluxe, and IHeartComix. Right after opening the BitTorrent Nowapp, users will be able to choose from all kinds of content fromthose publishers and more.

While BitTorrent has gained a reputation for the variety of illegalcontent often shared, BitTorrent Now is entirely legal. Some of thecontent is free, some is paid, and some is ad-supported.

Because BitTorrent Now is entirely legal, BitTorrent can finallylaunch true apps for iOS and tvOS, something that it hasn’t beenable to do in the past.

With BitTorrent Now, fans can find films from artists they love on their iPhone during theircommute and then favorite to stream later on the couch in front of their Apple TV. They’llalso have the ability to follow artists they love, create playlists, and see what’s trending onsocial or in the BitTorrent community.

BitTorrent Now uses BitTorrent’s now Bundle format, which basically means that users can berequired to do something, like sign-in or pay, before viewing the content. Bundles allow creators tohave greater control over their content, where it is shared, and who sees it, something that hasn’tnecessarily been true of BitTorrent in the past.

What’s interesting is that BitTorrent Now isn’t using any peer-to-peer technology like torrents do. Allcontent is being streamed directly from BitTorrent’s servers to the end-user.

BitTorrent Now is available now on the App Store for iOS and tvOS.
